Introduction

We are conducting a study of children with Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) to learn more about the syndrome. The purpose of this research is to carefully document, archive, and analyze the clinical features of each case of PANS for analysis now and in the future. We also hope to identify biomarkers of risk and disease severity, such as particular genes and environmental triggers.

We will be collecting and archiving clinical information and biospecimens from children with PANS at different stages of the illness. We will be comparing these results against data and specimens obtained from children with non-PANS psychiatric disorders and healthy controls (healthy volunteer children without PANS or psychiatric disorders). Family members (parents and unaffected siblings) of PANS participants will be asked to participate in a single visit to obtain limited clinical and biospecimen information.
